SHRM Foundation

    The SHRM Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit affiliate of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).  The Foundation is a legally separate organization, and is not funded by SHRM membership dues.

    The SHRM Foundation is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors from the HR profession, including academics, practitioners and representatives from SHRM.

    Certification Scholarships

    Scholarship: $750 for SHRM Certification exam and/or preparation (SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP)

    Number: 220 scholarships (20 reserved for members engaged in veterans or aging workforce issues in a professional or volunteer capacity) 

    Deadlines: April 10 and October 10, 2017

    Eligibility

    • Current SHRM member (Professional or student membership must be active when applying and throughout the year in which you receive the award.)
    • Meet eligibility requirements for SHRM Certification. 
    • Took certification exam in 2017 or plan to sit for exam in next 12 months. 

    How to Apply

    Complete online application including:

    • Contact information
    • Short answer questions about volunteer/career experience
    • Current resume
    • One letter of reference (letter may be addressed to the 'SHRM Foundation Scholarship Review Committee' and should provide insight into your character, career and volunteer accomplishments, work ethic, values and need for the scholarship. May be written by work or volunteer colleague,  professor, coach, etc. but should not come from a family member.

    Selection Criteria

    • 40% Work experience/progression (HR involvement & future career plans)
    • 40% Volunteer activity (SHRM experience preferred, but not required)
    • 20% Financial need

    By accepting a scholarship, you are consenting to allow the SHRM Foundation (and the award's sponsor, if any) to use without limitation, and in any media, your name, city, state, photos and captions (if uploaded), and verbiage for marketing and promotional purposes.  

     

    Award funds may be used for any combination of test preparation-such as SHRM Certification Preparation tools and/or exam fees. Scholarship recipients will be required to provide documentation of their certification expenses before receiving their award check. Each scholarship is a one-time award; however previous applicants and past scholarship recipients are eligible to re-apply. Certification scholarships are awarded twice annually. Applications are reviewed and scored by groups of SHRM volunteers in each region and are reviewed by staff. All decisions are final. Applicants selected for an award will be required to provide a Social Security number or other tax ID plus a copy of their test registration, receipt for SHRM Learning System purchase and/or registration for a SHRM certification preparation seminar prior to receiving award funds.

    Chapters/State Councils

    • 50% Plan for use of funds: program depth, reach and impact.
    • 30% Financial need.

    Volunteer judging committees are formed in each of the five SHRM domestic regions to review the scholarship applications. Scholarships will be distributed among all five regions so applicants are competing only with other applicants in their own region.

    Applicants selected for an award will be required to provide a Social Security number or tax ID as well as a copy of their test registration, receipt for Learning System purchase and/or registration for a SHRM certification preparation seminar prior to receiving their award funds.
